first visit to karma triyana dharmachakra
One evening, a fellow member and practitioner at Columbus KTC asked me if I was interested in going to the "head office" of the lineage for a weekend of teachings and taking vows.

This site is more appropriately called Karma Triyana Dharmachakra, a monastery located near Woodstock NY. It was founded in 1976 by the work and aspiration of His Holiness the 16th Gyalwang Karmapa. KTD is the seat of the Karma Kagyu Tibetan Buddhist lineage in North America. It will serve as the home and headquarters for His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa when he visits this continent in the near future.

On the occasion of my visit, the Venerable Bardor Tulku Rinpoche was to teach and offer refuge and bodhisattva vows. The first is the ceremony in which one becomes a Buddhist. The second is a pledge to work for the benefit and enlightenment of all sentient beings before oneself. An empowerment in the practice of mantra and visualization for the bodhisattva Chenrezig was also performed by Bardor Rinpoche.

Here, for the time being, are images from the visit. They show the huge gold-leaf statue of the Buddha in the monastery's main shrine room, the practitioners gathered to hear Bardor Rinpoche's teaching, and various details from outside the monastery.

May any merit generated by the presentation of these contents be shared among all beings.
